Bio and Teaching Experience

Born in Moscow, Russia, Eugenia Gerstein was trained at the Moscow Music school (piano), the Music Pedagogical College (music education and choral conducting) and the Ural State Conservatory (Choral conducting and Music Theory).

She soon focused on developing a method of teaching the language of music to gifted children and professionals using music theory and ear training.  She taught master classes and gave presentations on developing the musical abilities of children at music conferences in Russia and the USA.

She chaired the Music Theory Department at the Voronezh Pedagogical College from 1977 to 1994 and served as a consultant to the Music Education Department of the Russian Ministry of Education from 1984 to 1994.

In 1994, Eugenia Gerstein moved to the States with her young son, Kirill Gerstein, now an internationally performing concert pianist. She established a private studio in Boston, teaching piano, voice, music theory and ear training.

She is also a sought-after classroom teacher.  Eugenia Gerstein is currently teaching at the Solomon Schechter Day School in Newton, Mass, where she is also Director of the Music-Enhanced Learning (MEL) Program. In addition, she is serving as music teacher and choral director and head of iGenesis studio at Temple Emanuel in Newton, Mass.

An excellent pianist herself, Eugenia Gerstein is frequently collaborating with singers and writers on a broad range of creative projects, combining literature and music. Recent performances saw her at the Goethe Institute, Boston, and Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass.
